After a prolonged
absence, the dead fish are back. Authorities say that millions of dead fish are
washing up at King Harbor Marina in Redondo Beach, California. It's been
several months since we've seen any widespread reports of those mass animal
deaths , but now the fish are washing up dead on the West Coast.
Millions of dead
fish, including anchovies and sardines, are now dead and floating along the
north side of King Harbor Marina. “There's basically fish everywhere you go in
the harbor,” said Jason McMullin, the harbor's assistant manager.
Redondo Beach
officials report that their initial assessments indicate that oxygen depletion
in the King Harbor basins caused the massive fish deaths. City Manager Bill
Workman says officials will try to determine whether or not there was any
environmental issue to blame. Tests are now being performed on the water as
officials attempt to remove the dead fish.
“There are no
visible signs of any toxins that might have caused (the die-off) and our early
assessment is that this was oxygen depletion,” Workman said. “This is similar
to what we experienced five years ago but that was distinctly a red tide event
but there's no discoloration of the water, no associated foaming in the waves,”
Workman said. “There are no oil slicks or leaking of substances into the
water.”
“It looks like what
happens to goldfish when you don't change the water in the tank, mouth open and
belly up,” Workman said.

There are more mass animal deaths to
report this morning as authorities are currently investigating the deaths of
about 2 million fish in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay.
The Maryland Department of the
Environment has said the following in a prepared statement:
“Natural causes
appear to be the reason. Cold water stress exacerbated by a large population of
the affected species appears to be the cause of the kill.”
The massive fish kill comes just days after about 100,000 dead fish
washed ashore in Arkansas , and thousands of dead birds have been reported in
Arkansas , Louisiana, and Kentucky. Authorities haven't clearly defined what
caused those deaths, with some experts attributing it to trauma, while others
suspect disease.
There are still those conspiracy theorists who also blame bird government testing. “The affected fish are almost exclusively juvenile spot fish, 3 to 6 inches in length,” the Maryland department said. A recent survey “showed a very strong population of spot in the bay this year. An increased juvenile population and limited deep water habitat would likely compound the effects of cold water stress.”

deaths occurring tonight as thousands of turtle doves have fallen dead from the
sky in Italy.
Doves have been found
scattered in the streets, lying dead in flower beds, and hanging from trees
“like Christmas balls” in the town of Faenza. What makes this instance at least
slightly different from others that have been taking place around the world is
that many of these doves seemed to have a mysterious blue stain surrounding
their beaks.
In the past week,
similar instances of mass animal deaths have been reported around the globe.
We've seen reports of dead birds in Arkansas on New Year's Eve, and similar
reports soon came in from Louisiana and Kentucky. One hundred thousand dead
fish soon washed ashore in Arkansas followed by some two million dead fish in
Maryland's Chesapeake Bay. There are also now reports that 40,000 dead crabs
have washed up on the beaches in England.
GeaPress is
reporting that those blue stains found on the beaks of the dead and dying birds
in Italy could be due to potassium cyanide poisoning or possibly even hypoxia.
There are plenty of conspiracy theories flying around, but it's clear at this
point that no one knows for sure what is causing these deaths.
